I have dealt with some adversity as part of a small program at university. With only one other graduate in my major, there aren’t very many people that I can lean on that understand what I’m learning and working on. This also means that there aren’t as many opportunities for me. I have addressed this issue by making sure that I have good relationships with my professors that are within this field.
I have also started to get my foot in the door by designing a website for a close friend’s bakery. This has allowed me to further my graphic design and problem-solving skills. These experiences taught me that I can get myself onto the right path. I just need to put myself out there and continue to develop my design skills
One of the goals, after graduation, is to move to Boston to take advantage of the many opportunities in the design field. A hotspot for many industries, being in Boston would afford me the ability to pursue creative work in logo/identity design and social media marketing. Eventually, I would love to design posters and marketing materials for the movie industry.
To start though, I’d like to work with small local businesses to improve or develop their design/marketing collateral and branding identity – much like I did with my friend’s bakery. Small businesses may not have the benefit of a large promotional budget, but all of their design elements are crucial for connecting with their customers and growing their business.
One of my specific interests is movie posters. It’s a huge industry and has lots of opportunities. One of the ways I have developed knowledge in this area is by learning how to properly composite images together.
